12th June 2011
This week the weather has thrown everything from flat calm with sunshine to strong winds with lashing rain at us, but the trout have just kept on coming with some anglers chalking up ten or more to a session, but I have to admit the type of lines and flies being deployed has been somewhat varied ranging from klinchammers to pink bunnyleeches and floaters to fast intermediates. Mr Barcik and Mr Coyle fished an evening session on Sunday their first visit to the lake since the days of the previous owner and despite the heavy rain and cold easterly breeze returned a more than decent bag among which was a fully finned cracker that weighed in at 31/2lb, they left that evening saying and I quote “If that’s what it’s like on a bad night we can’t wait to get back on a good one” we look forward to your next visit lads. Another duo who deserve a special mention this week are regulars Tam Duguid and David Curry with only 30 minutes left on Tuesday they still needed 2 fish for a full bag but Tam rose to the challenge and caught them both on the same cast and with a skilful piece of landing net work from David the job was done.
5th June 2011 The horrendous conditions last Sunday meant that only nine members of the Raith Lake Raiders A/C took to their home water although they stuck with it till the end the weather came out on top, holding them to 11 fish for 19lb 8oz, brave effort lads! As the terrible weather continued on until midweek fishing was quite to say the least but finally on Thursday everything changed and by the time Thursday evening arrived the fish were back on the feed, in fact I would go as far as to say the evening anglers witnessed one of the most spectacular rises on the lake this year, partly down to the high density of fish in the water and partly the conditions being near perfect. Then on Friday our local OAPs the Veterans A/C managed a decent bag of 13 fish for 25lb 4oz between the five of them, with many more returned on the day, and to quote one of the older members “a very good day was had by all”. Catches over the last ten days have been too numerous to mention and flies have ranged from small Pink Lures through to Sedge Hogs and of course the usual Buzzers 22nd May 2011 Of course Mr Martyn Wilson was grinning from ear to ear when he laid his perfectly finned specimen rainbow of 4 1/4lb in the scales on Saturday, but his joy did not even come close to that of his novice angler boat partner Malcolm Lindsay who caught his first ever rainbow a lovely fish of 2 1/4lb, the larger of the two fell to an olive fritz and a concrete bowl spelled the end for Malcolm's trout. On Tuesday evening McFly A.C.’s 6 members visited the lake for the second time this season and weighed in a decent bag of 11 fish for 22lb returning a further 8 on catch & release. The area’s producing the most prolific fishing still seems to be the centre of the water and up towards the burn mouth, methods have varied from floating and midge tip lines with flies such as blue & black sedge hogs and black and green buzzers to intermediate lines with orange blobs or damsels. Other catches this week to name but a few included Ian & Jim Orr 5 for 10 3/4lb with 8 returned, Bob Watson on a catch & release session 8 trout caught on size 14 green diawl bach, although his gillie Sandy Wilkie may be claiming responsibility for part of his good fortune. Arthur & Paul Mckenna were another duo to weigh in their bag limit of 5 which were caught on a black beetle and a green hopper fizhead on floating lines.
15th May 2011 No big competitions at the lake this week but that certainly doesn’t mean that the sport has been any less exciting for both the daytime and evening anglers. The water is now gin clear and the fish have been falling to a vast array of flies ranging from orange blobs to diawl bachs, but in general still in the upper reaches of the water which has meant floating or very slow intermediate lines. Local fishing club Barry’s A.C. had 8 of their members out on the water on Saturday and returned a good bag of 18 trout for 40lb which included a fine fish of 5lb that Chris Nicholson tempted with a hot head damsel, and another at 3lb 12oz that fell to Scott Patersons red diawl bach. The fishing has been good all over the water but down the middle of the lake and up the west end have probably produced the bigger catches.
8th May 2011
This week saw the start of night sessions down at the lake and the anglers were finally able to enjoy the eagerly anticipated evening rises and they were certainly not disappointed. McFly A.C. visited on Tuesday night and were rewarded with a cracking evenings fishing with plenty of feeding fish to test the skills of even their most experienced anglers, and the six anglers that chose Wednesday night shared the same excellent sport with returns of 26 fish between them. The fishing has been very similar for the day anglers with trout feeding just sub-surface. On Saturday the annual Masonic pairs competition took place, the event which is organised by George Wallace is always a great day out and this year was no different it was close between the first and second teams but Jim Smith and Andy Smith came out on top with 18 fish to the boat and second place going to Ian & Mr A Campbell with a bag of 12. Best individual angler went to Jim Smith with 14 fish to his own rod, there was a total of 67 fish caught on the day. Then on Sunday Kinross Ex Servicemen A.C and the Scottish Lame Ducks clocked up 14 fish for 28lb with 5 returned and 21 fish for 381/4lb with 11 returned respectively between them. The returns this week have meant that the rod average at the lake is an excellent 4 fish plus per angler
1st May 2011 With the clarity of the water improving daily over the last fortnight the anglers who prefer their floating lines and buzzers have chalked up a healthy amount of good bags, with fish up to 4lb and many more in the 21/4 lb. to 21/2 lb. class hitting the scales, but there is always room for the intermediate lines and the tried and tested black & green lures and of course the good old yellow dancer as this combination has also bagged it’s fair share of trout. The most productive areas of the lake still seem to be just out from the jetty and down the middle of the water in a westerly direction. Last Saturday the lake played host to St Peters AC from Paisley and there 12 anglers weighed in a fine bag of 36 trout for 753/4lb with many more returned on catch & release. This weekend saw May fly AC on the water whose 8 strong team reported a very enjoyable day with 23 fish for 47lb on the day. More regularly updated information is always available on our web site under the weekly updates section.
10th April 2011 The fish at the lake have now been feeding just sub surface for about the last two weeks, which has meant that the anglers have had some great sport on buzzers, producing some really good bags and consistent sport. Saturday saw the last day of the 2010/2011 winter league. This years competition was won by Mark Dobson which netted him a handsome £600 pound cash prize, second place went to Stevie Bett who picked up £400 with third place going to Graham Ramsay which earned him £200, heaviest fish for the main part of the league was also captured by Stevie Bett which meant a further £100. The remainder of the £1600 plus prize fund was divided between the 1st 2nd 3rd and heaviest fish for the last day which meant Davy Vandieken took first place, and heaviest fish, with Graham Ramsay scooping yet another prize for second place and Stevie Bett took third place. The winter league has been an absolute cracking competition this year and has been fairly close in the points, it has accounted for a massive 380 fish for 7891/4 Lb with almost as many returned on catch and release. We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of the 16 anglers who took part this year making it he great success that it was, so for anyone who fancies a go at winning a share of such a large prize fund don't hesitate later in the year when the dates are released for the 2011/2012 league to get your name down as there are a maximum of 24 places. Once again thanks to every one and we look forward to doing it all again next year.
27th March 2011 This week has been yet another bumper week for the anglers down at the lake, the water clarity has improved and the fish have began feeding just subsurface which has made for sum great sport on the buzzers fished either on floating lines or midge tips but the lures have still had their part to play with old favourites such as yellow dancers and olive damsals accounting for a few decent bags. The final of the main part of the winter league was fished on Sunday with Mark Dobson claiming 1st position 2nd Stevie Bett 3rd Graham Ramsay 4th Davy Vandieken with Stevie managing to hold onto the prize for the heaviest fish as well, but the rest of the lads still have a chance to claim a prize on the Fish Off Day which will take place on Sat 9th April which officially marks the end of the winter league with the presentation of the prizes and a social event in the evening, always a day to look forward to. Leslie and Glenrothes fished their second outing of the season on Saturday weighing in a very respectable bag of 34 fish for 73 ¼ lb. with a further 33 returned, the club members were more than happy with their 67 trout for the day. Some mid-week catches this week included, Jim and Steven Summers 5- 11 ½ Jimmy Taylor 2-5lb, Jim Maurice 2-4 ½ Andy Thomson and Les Cowan 5-10lb Kenny Douglas & Brian Marshall 5- 12lb, it was also very heartening to see two of our senior citizens Mr Dewar and Mr Cowan both catching fish in the 3lb class here’s hoping that the favourable weather conditions stay with us for some time producing lots more of this fantastic sport.
20th March 2011
Saturday saw the first of George Wallace’s three
annual fundraising events at the lake. The anglers enjoyed a hearty breakfast
before taking to the water, and in the evening a sit down three course meal
followed, by a night of tall fishing tales as the lads have a drink or two.
It seemed to be a day for
the father and son teams to shine as first place went to Messer’s J Anderson Snr
& Jnr with a total of 24 trout and second place going to Eddie McKinnon and
young Edward, with a fine bag totaling 21 rainbows, Mr McKinnon Snr also scooped
the trophy for the heaviest fish, a cracker that weighed in bang on 4Lb.
Proceeds for the day were donated to Kirkcaldy Pipe band funds and Children in
need Red Nose appeal. A big thank you to the 22 anglers who took part in the
event, but I think you will agree they were well rewarded as their catch for the
day was a massive 92 trout which consisted of 30 fish for 613/4 Lb. with a
further 62 released, well done lads.
13th March 2011 With the unsettled and sometimes bitter cold weather this week the lake has been quite Monday to Friday, but as the fair weather anglers sat by the fire on Saturday nine hardy members of Lesley and Glenrothes AC took to the water faced with snow blizzards and then torrential rain. Against all the odds they won through weighing in a respectable 20 fish for 47 3/4 lb. one of which was a beautiful rainbow of 4lb 14oz caught by Stevie Anderson. the club also released a further 9 fish. However the rain had taking its toll by Sunday morning and the lake had coloured up quite badly making it a rather demanding day for the lads fishing in the winter league, thou they still managed to weigh in over 22lbs of fish. with the 6 points going to Stevie Bett this week. With Bill Smart weighing in yet another rainbow over 3lbs. 6th March 2011 This week has been an absolute cracker with the lake producing a few red letter days for its mid-week anglers, not least of all Mr Thomas Jordan who’s 3 fish ticket netted him 13 1/4 lb. of trout including a cracking rainbow of 7 1/4 lb., he also released a further 6 fish and went home a very happy man. Saturday saw the annual opening day pairs competition at the lake and the full complement of 24 anglers took to the water with great anticipation fuelled with information about tactics and flies from the Monday-Friday anglers. The lake did not disappoint as all but 1 of the 12 pairs caught their maximum bags and released a further 61 fish making a total of 117 fish caught on the day. First place this year went to Keith Pace and John Singleton with second position going to father and son team Andy Gourlay Snr and Jnr and Ralph Rose and Bill English scooping the bronze medal. The anglers were all rewarded with cash prizes, fly storage boxes and fishing vouchers, well done lads. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who took part in the competition making it a resounding success and we hope to see you all again next year. I would also like to thank the management at Outdoor. Game. Tackle. Fife for the prizes they donated. A few of the other catches this week included, Jim & Ian Orr 5 fish for 11 1/4 lb. with a further 12 returned, Andy Thompson & Les Cowan 5 fish for 10lb 11oz, Donald McKenzie & Joe C/R 7 fish returned. Altogether this week the lake has produced over 200 fish I think you will agree it’s been a fair weeks fishing
27th February 2011 With the upturn in the weather, a bit of sunshine and the lack of rain the lake has finally began to clear and quite a few of the over wintered fish have been putting in an appearance, with fish in the 4 and 5lb class being reported by catch and release anglers. Fish up to 3 ½ lb. being weighed in among the many excellent bags this week. The lads in the winter league enjoyed a fantastic days fishing, weighing in 31 fish for 63 ¾ lb. and returning a further 48 fish on catch & releases, with the heaviest fish of the day a cracking rainbow of 3lb 12oz falling to Bill Smart, but a special mention must go to Roger Kershaw with 15 fish to his own rod which finally got his name on the score board, Well Done Roger. Catches this week to name but a few, Bill English who landed 2 fish for 5lb 7oz on an unknown New Zealand fly, Gordon Smith 2 fish for 4lb 9oz both landed on an Ace of Spades, Mr Thomas & Mr Cowan weighing in 5 fish for 12lb who were fishing Black and Green Lures and a lake favorite Bloodworm buzzers, this catch included a beautiful 3lb 4oz rainbow, they also released 7 further fish. Mr Brown and Mr Dugit 2 fish for 5lb, they were also fishing on the lakes favorite bloodworm. Our catch and release fisherman were also reporting catches of up to 5 fish returned.
14th February 2011 The Lake finally began to clear from the deluge of bad weather last week, and on Thursday things started to look up with all the anglers returning good numbers of fish. The fine spell carried on through Friday and Saturday with a few of the anglers adopting floating lines and flies such as Diawl Bachs and Bloodworms, being well rewarded for their effort with some fine rainbows weighing from 2 ½ lb. to 4 ¾ lb. being caught. But the rain on Saturday night and through most of Sunday made the fishing a little harder for the anglers in the winter league, but they fished on in true spirit of the sport and returned a fair bag of 26 fish among them trout up to 3 ½ lb. well done lads. Other catches this week to name but a few included M. Thompson 5 fish for 11 ½ lb. W. Killpatrick 3 fish for 6 ½ lb. I. Watson 3 fish for 6lb. M. Sturrock 6 fish for 15lb who’s bag included one lovely rainbow weighing just under the 5lb mark, which was landed on a cruncher. Bill Morriss 3 fish for 6 ½ lb. and Paul Smart weighing in 3 fish for 6 ½ lb. also.
6th February 2011 At the lake this week the midweek fishing was good, with some good catches: Mr Thomson 2 fish for 4lb and Mr B. Scott with 1 fish for 2lb. However the weekend saw heavy rain and typical Scottish weather making the water turn a lovely shade of brown, challenging even the most skilled angler, including our regular Winter League boys on Sunday. But the fishing remained very difficult to the bitter end. Now on another note we are taking names for our annual Opening Day Pairs Competition which is set to take place on Saturday 5th March. If you wish to fish it please contact the lake via phone: 01592 646466 or email: fishing@raithlake.com or indeed through our contact link on our website. Tight Lines - Ace of Spades

5th December 2010 Due to the terrible weather last week only 15 anglers turned up for the Pike Day. The day was one of all seasons in one day snow, hail, rain & brief sunshine, cold wind and hail again! First place went to David Van Darken and Ronnie Baird with 7 fish, 2nd was Conrad Rudi and Bill Smart. Heaviest fish was 12.5lbs caught by Conrad Rudi and a 6.5lbc caught by Bill Smart. Due to the weather this week the lake has been frozen over and the only life on the lake has been the foxes and pheasants. Hopefully we will see a thaw this week as the winter league has already been cancelled and will be re scheduled as soon as weather permits. Tight Lines - Ace of Spades 29th November 2010 Wow did the weathermen get their predictions right this week! Although it was not the weather for the faint hearted those who did venture down to the lake were all rewarded with good bags of fish and ideal conditions for the rainbow trout. I can't wait for the spring season to see the results of the over wintered fish. The pike competition got under way at the end of the week with 7 boats taking part, the results will be announced next week. Flies doing well this week were Ace of Spades, Viva and most mini lures fished very slowly. Tight Lines - Ace of Spades21st November 2010 F irst things first, may I congratulate the Fife Free Press Group for their new format for the paper, reading the angling report on the train hasn't been easier, Thank-You! The weather this week has not been very kind to the anglers but it has not deterred the fishing at the lake. Most of the weathered anglers have had good returns and great sport. Local angler Donald McKenzie had two outings this week and returned 38 fish, good practice for the the winter league on Sunday! A few other catches this week were :- Mr Duguid and Noel Stevens 2 for 4lbs, Mr Barrie 5 for 10.1/4lbs, Mr Thompson 2 for 4.1/4lbs, I think there is some place left for the Pike Day anyone wishing any information about the contest please contact the Fishery Manager at the lake on 01592 646466 Tight Lines - Ace Of Spades
14th November 2010 This week saw the lake being very coloured at the beginning of the week but has now started to clear up a bit. There has been a very cold snap this week so not good for us anglers but the fish seem to be very active just now there is even a good hatch of flies at the moment when the sun appears. Flies doing well at the moment are silver humongous, black and red buzzers and most black and green patterns. The Winter League was out on Sunday with most of the guys bagging up early some catches this week were:- Mr Jordan 3 for 6lbs, Mr Duguid 1 for 2lbs, Mr Thompson 2 for 4lbs, Mr McKenzie 4 fish returned.Tight Lines - Ace Of Spades 7th November 2010
Heavy rain falling during the
week has coloured the water and made the fishing a little more difficult but
as usual change your flies and tactics and you should be fine just ask the
locals, I am sure with their knowledge of the lake they will be willing to
help. Raith Lake Raiders were out last week and found the going difficult,
no great bags were reported but as usual they all enjoyed themselves. A
small reminder to all anglers, it is not to late to join the winter league!
There has only been one outing done and there is still a couple of boats
left. Please also note "the Pike Day" on Sunday 28th November still has a
few places left so phone the lake and book your boat 01592646466
Catches this week to mention a
few were:- Bill Smart returned 4, P West 2 for 4lbs, Mr Brown 2 for 4lbs

2nd November 2010
It's now into November
with short nights and no more brown trout to catch or should I say keep
as Donald McKenzie can tell you he returned 6 fish and amongst them was
a beautiful 7 lb brown trout! As usual down at the lake it happens
nearly every year, someone gets a fish of a lifetime but alas out of
season well done Donald. Things have been a bit slow this week at the
lake due to the weather but the few anglers who braved the elements had
great success. The heavy rain has helped clear the lake and with the
cold weather the rainbows are starting to show a lot more. The Winter
League started on Sunday the results will be published in next week's
press any one looking for some great autumn photos get down to the lake
and take some snaps you will be more than welcome

14th October 2010
The lake has produced some cracking bags of
fish this week so it's looking like it's well and truly out of the doldrums
and heading towards producing the amazing sport that the lake is famed for
throughout the winter. Flies that have been more predominant than others
are, Yellow tailed humongous, Blob, Sparklers and at the other end of the
spectrum Hares ear, and Hoppers used in the shallows at the east end of the
lake. Edinburgh's High Constables fished the lake on Saturday returning a
more than decent bag of 30 fish! Other successful anglers this week included
James McGarry 6 for 12.25lbs, Kenny Anderson 6 fish returned, Andy Godsell 5
fish returned, Duffy 2 for 5lbs, Mr Ogilvy 4 for 8lbs, Mr Young 2 for 5lbs.
Barry's A. C. held one of their outings on Sunday and produced a good return
well done lads!

The water at the lake this
week is a bit coloured due to the heavy rain this week but there has still
been a good hatch of flies. First thing in the morning and last thing at
night it is best to try and match the hatch to give yourself a better
chance. Flies that have been most productive this week were Blobs of the
sparkly type, wooly buggers, bloodworms and small lures. Try using a midge
tip or a very slow intermediate line. Catches this week to name a few were
:- Kennoway A.C. 3 for 7lbs, Farmers A.C. 29 for 56lbs, Grahame Ramsay and
Alex Bell 5 for 9.75lbs, Noel Stevens 5 for 10lbs, Mr Jordan 3 for 5.5lbs,
Mr Thompson 4 for 7.5lbs, Mr Duguid 1 for 2lbs, T Jackson and partner 5 for

26th September 2010
This week has seen the
water temp drop a little bit down to 9 deg and the cooler evenings and
rain are making a difference. The water clarity at the beginning of
theweek was very clear but with the very heavy rain on Wednesday evening
the water started to cloud but by the end of the week the clarity had
started to get back to normal. A slight breeze at the week-end
encouraged the use of small flies and they seemed to be doing the trick
along with the old favorites bloodworm, hares ear, viva, ace of spades
and small humungous. Catches this week to mention a few were M Gray 2
for 4lbs, S Cunningham 4 for 8lbs, Mr McDade 2 for 4lbs 1 ret. Mr Scott
and friend 3 for 5.75lbs, Mr Jordan 3 for 6lbs, Mr Robertson and friend
5 for 10.5lbs, Mr Duguid 1 brown trout 2lbs, Bobby 1 for 2 lbs, Mr
Thompson 1 for 2lbs.

This week started off slowly down at the
lake but it didn't take long for the anglers to work out that a Humungous in
its many forms and the old favourite the bloodworm were doing the business.
The middle of the lake and the area in the sluices producing the larger bags
of fish. Among them were Jimmy "Muck" and Allan Proctor with 5 for 9lbs and
9 returned, Mr Gillfillian 4 for 8lbs, Mr Dunlop 3 for 5.5lbs, Bob and Harry
3 for 6lbs, Cowdenbeath A. C. fished the lake on Saturday returning 34 fish
63lbs!

12th September 2010 Hopefully with the cooler nights the water is cooling down now at 10 degrees as against 15 degrees last week and from bags returned this week it would indicate that the fish are beginning to feed again. Some spooned fish caught by Noel Stevens showed small snails and shrimps with other anglers catching on buzzers black and green variants. Neil Young had 5 fish on what can only be described as a Humongous with a yellow tail. The water is now starting to clear and visability is around 3 feet. A few catches this week were Noel Stevens 3 fish for 6 lbs. Bill Dunrie 2 fish for 4lbs. Mr Wilson 2 fish for 4lbs. Mr Dunn on c/r returned 4 fish. MGM.timber merchants had 6 guests at the lake on Friday although it rained in the morning the ended up with 4 fish for 8lbs and had a thoroughly good day! Young and Robertson 5 fish for 16lbs. After a long absence from the lake Jim Horseburgh had 2 fish for 4lbs, Ralph Rose and friend on c/r 20 fish returned and Arran Adie 2 for 4lbs. Tight lines - Ace of Spades|8th September 2010
This week has shown as usual
September is the month of the rising of Brown Trout. When fishing on the
evening sessions you can almost set your watch to when the fish are on the
feed. The weather has been really good for fishing at the moment even with
the rain and wind mid week. As all you seasoned anglers should know the
brown trout season is just about to close next month so mind as usual please
be careful when putting the brown trout back into the water. September is
the month when a bunch of the local boy's at the lake have their annual
outing to one of the bigger reservoirs down south this year it was the turn
of Ravensthorpe Reservoir. I have not spoken to the guy's yet but will have
a report next week. Flies doing well this week are Kate McLaren, Ace of
Spades, Bloodworm, Orange Blob and also try some of the small traditional
dry flies.

30th August 2010 The weather has been very kind especially for this time of the year. It is supposed to be warm and sunny this week so it may go according to plan. Although there are reports that the lake is fishing well, catching the fish seems to be no bother it's the keeping them on the fly that is difficult. There has been a lot of 2lb plus Brown trout caught and also a great number of smaller brown trout caught too. Midge tips and slow intermediate lines seem to be the preferred lines to use along with sparkling Cormorants, Kate McLaren, Bloodworm, Snatcher and Black and Green Buzzers. Also try Mini Lures fished with a slow figure of eight. The local A.C. the Raith Lake Raiders were out on Saturday. Tight lines - Ace of Spades
24th August 2010
On the whole this week the fishing has
again been very challenging but those who were willing to try different
tactics reaped the benefits. Floating lines and midge tips seemed to be the
order of the week along with small flies especially Diawl bach's, mini
cormorants, black and green buzzers and Kate McLaren's. Mr Cunningham bagged
a beautiful 4.5lb rainbow on Friday on a small dry fly. Other catches to
mention a few were Mr Crawford 5 fish returned, Noel Stevens 2 for 5lbs, Mr
Bridgeland 2 for 4.25lbs and Bonnybridge A.C. enjoyed 15 fish for 28lbs

At last the water tempter is dropping and
the clarity is good and coupled with the early morning sea haar's bringing
in much needed cool air things are now looking up the two old Raith
favorites, the Orange Blob and the Diawl Bach. These are beginning to
feature in the list of flies that are doing the business. Mr Michie, who's
friend is over from Canada decided to fish a day session on Saturday before
taking off for a week's fishing in the Orkneys. He was extremely pleased
that he did after returning 9 fighting fit rainbows to the boat. Other
catches to name a few were:- Ralph Rose 1 fish for 3.5 lbs, Alan Proctor &
Ian Orr 4 for 10lbs, Mr Carlow 3 for 5.5lbs, Mr Jordan 2 for 4lbs. I will
finish off with another reminder that names are now being taken for the
Winter League and the dates can be viewed
here. For more info call 01592 646466.

10th August 2010 This week the lake has been a test to the anglers stealth, cunning and patience. The water is still around 12° with the clarity slowly getting better. The veterans angling club were out on Monday with 6 anglers catching 16 fish. As mentioned last week the lake will now be taking names for the Winter League, please be quick to avoid disappointment. so consequently the fishing has improved too with quite a few of the
resident 3 to 4 pounders being caught! In the last week Noel Steven, a
regular angler was bagged up including a beautiful 3.00lb rainbow trout.
Other fruitful anglers were Mr Carson 2 for 4.5lbs, Mr Harvey 2 for 4.25lbs,

Who said fishing was easy?
26TH JULY 2010 Although the weather has now returned to normality for the angler the fishing at the lake is still to some extent challenging although even the most somnolent of anglers are reaching their bag limit. Small lures and very small flies seem to be doing well at the moment on a slow intermediate line. Michael & George netted a full finned brownie at 3lbs and carefully returned it to the water. The water temp is still holding 10° and the water clarity has improved dramatically in recent days. September is just around the corner, a time when we will see the start of the fantastic rises the lake is renowned for! Catches this week to mention a few:- Mr Hutton 2 for 4.5lbs, Michael & George 8 for 16.75lbs, Ralph Rose 4 fish returned and Mr Syme & part. 6 for 12.5lbs Tight lines - Ace of spades
19TH JULY 2010
Fishing at the lake is still proving to be
a little exigent but we should not lose sight of the fact that July and
August are traditionally demanding months, even for the fastidious fly
fisherman! Although there has been respectable quantities of fish caught, no
one has set new records. I think we shall just have to be tolerant and enjoy
it as true sportsmen should. September is not far away and if the trout are
not showing for you, try using this once highly fashionable technique I
discovered whilst browsing through an old Scottish fly book! Downsize a Cul
de Canard to a size 12-14 and degrease the leader, after all nothing
ventured nothing gained!

12TH JULY 2010
The lake this week has been very
challenging for the angler with hot, bright sunny days then wind and rain it
has not been ideal conditions for fishing. Some anglers have been getting
fish but it has been hard and frustrating. Regular anglers that know the
lake well have still managed to bag up with their limit of fish! Evening
sessions have been good fun with plenty of fish moving but again being fussy
as to what they will take. Hopefully as the water temp drops fly life will
pick up and the fishing will improve. Flies doing well this week were Kate
McLaren, Yellow Dancer, Ace of Spades, Hares Ear, Viva and Blood Worm.
The directors and all the local anglers would like to offer their condolences to the family of Tom Jane who sadly died on Friday 9th July. His sense of humour and wit will be sadly missed by all who knew Tom. Although Tom hailed from the West of Scotland, he was a regular visitor to the lake all our thoughts go to Tom's family at this time. Tight lines - Ace of spades
05TH JULY 2010
The weather has played a large factor
in the fishing results over the last few weeks so the staff at the lake
were delighted to see some fresh air and cooling rain arriving at the
water, hopefully this will bring the fish back on and make the
fishing more productive. Although the fishing has been difficult the
catches have still been plentiful so with Wimbledon and the World cup
football coming to a close the figures of the anglers are set to rise so
we hope to see yours amongst them!

28TH JUNE 2010
What a spell
of good weather we are having at the moment, ok for the sun lovers I
suppose but not so good for us anglers! The Raith lake raiders were
out on a lovely summers night last Saturday but only managed to take
10 fish of the lake for 28.5lbs. In saying that, everyone is finding
it hard at the moment but trust me things will be back to normal
shortly. The water temp has been around 13 degrees resulting in the
fish lying in the deeper water. Talking to some of the anglers in
the car park I discovered the favoured method used was
intermediate line small flies and a very slow retrieve so why not
give it a try, I am sure the boys can't all be wrong! Catches this
week to mention a few were:-Mr Harvey 3 for 6.5lbs, Mr Gallo 2 for
4lbs, Mr Patterson 2 for 4.75lbs, RALPH Rose 3 fish returned, David
Watson 3 for 6lbs and Mr Easton 4 for 7.5lbs

21st June 2010
We are now approaching the time
of year when the day session anglers need to think about the
tactics they adopt with the water temperatures and the sun
shinning its time to go down and retrieve with a slow figure of
eight and results will follow. The time for top of the water
fishing has definitely moved to the evening sessions with some
fantastic rises of feeding fish at the lake seen lately. With
the world cup taking centre stage at the moment the stalwart
anglers are Leslie and Glenrothes and Edinburgh High Constables
who fought against swirling wind conditions this weekend with
some of their members winning through and some struggling on.
Overall the lake has fished well this week some catches to
mention a few were :- Michael Phillips and George Mackie 5 for
10.5 lbs 5 fish returned, Bill Patterson and Stan 5 for 10lbs 3
fish returned, Mr Dewar 1 for 2lbs Ralph Rose 4 fish returned,
Mr Holder 2 for 4lbs, Bill Burns 3 for 6lbs, Keith park 3 for
6.5lbs and finally Mr Harry who came to the lake to kill a few
hours while his daughter gave birth at Forth Park Maternity Unit
returned 7 fish! Hope everything went well for mother and baby!

Most
evenings down at the lake are getting
very busy at the moment and with the
mixed weather the traditional flies are
'working a treat' says Mr Galbraith who
is on holiday from Inverness. Mr
Galbraith happened to take a boat out on
a notion and had a great time and will
definitely be coming back with his home
club. Dry flies are doing well at the
moment so if you are a dry fly fisherman
the rise at 8.30 - 9.00pm will suit you
to a tee! Flies doing well this week
were orange blob, mini viva, ace of
spades, blood worm, yellow dancer, black
orange cheek buzzers and a varied
selection of dry flies. Catches this
week to mention a few were Dunfermline
Artisans 33 fish for 61lbs, Jack Fraser
3 for 6.5lbs Andrew Gourlay Jnr & Snr 6
for 14lbs. Greig Ellis & Grandad had a
few on and lost them at the boat. This
has happened to a few anglers this week

With
the weather still very hot and sunny it
hasn't been to harsh on the anglers. The
guy's who have been using the dry fly
tactics have been having a rather great
time. The temperature of the water is
hanging around the 9 - 10° and the water is
gin clear at the moment. There has been a
good hatch of flies at present which in turn
has stirred up the fish especially the
evening brownies. Catches this week to
mention a few were Jim (Muck) and his
brother Philip 5 fish for 10lbs
they also returned 24 fish to the lake
thus making a superb days sport fishing for

With the weather being very
hot this week it certainly hasn't deterred the
anglers from visiting the lake. The fish have kept
down to around 3 feet or less so a slow intermediate
line seems to be doing the trick if fished slowly.
The water clarity is very good at the moment and the
water temp is10°. Flies doing well this week are
Olive Buzzers, Diawl Bach, Hot head damsel, Black

Although the weather
has been rather on the cold side it is the conditions
the rainbow trout like. We were lucky we didn't get the
snow as predicted on the weather front. Never the less
most anglers dealt with it and showed results with good
bags of fish. The Raith Lake Raiders were out at Tam's
place on Sunday with Andrew Smith coming out on top. The
rest of the guys had a good day too and the results will
be in the press next week. Tam Duguid had a full finned
over wintered rainbow @ 4lbs 3oz and it was caught on a
blood worm. I was out on the lake on Saturday and with
the month being May I thought I would try out the
traditional flies but sadly I got the same results as
most of the other older anglers. Never mind, the good
weather is round the corner and that's when the
traditional will come to be. Flies doing very well this
week were:- Yellow Dancer, Bloodworm Ace of Spades,
Green Alexandra, Cormorant Black & Green Buzzards and
mini lures. Catches this week to name a few were :-
Ryan Geddes and Mr S Summers 2 for 4lbs, Willie

Overall
the lake has been fishing quite well considering the
bright sunshine. Not all anglers have caught their limit
but most have bagged up and returned a good many fish.
Those anglers enjoying the OAP ticket have taken
advantage on the low cost (£10.00) and have had really
good results. Veteran Club Members J Taylor and Mr
Maurice both bagged up and returned 14 fish. The first
outing of the year for our local fishing club the Raith
Lake Raiders finished with 22 fish for 44lbs.
Water temp. stayed about 9 degrees this week. Flies this
